Echeveria ‘Giant Blue’ is a stunning succulent known for its oversized rosette of silvery-blue leaves that give it a bold yet elegant appearance. Perfect for bright, sunny spaces, this low-maintenance beauty makes a striking focal point in any plant collection or succulent arrangement.
Scientific Name
Echeveria ‘Giant Blue’ (a hybrid cultivar prized for its large rosette and striking colouration)
Common Name(s)
Giant Blue Succulent, Blue Echeveria
Origin
A hybrid cultivar developed from Echeveria species native to Mexico.
Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light to full sun. A south- or east-facing window is ideal. Avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch its leaves.
Water
Follow the “soak and dry” method: water thoroughly and allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. Reduce watering significantly during the winter months when the plant enters dormancy.
Humidity
Prefers low to average humidity. Avoid placing it in overly humid areas to prevent rot. Ensure proper air circulation around the plant.
Soil
Use a well-draining soil mix, such as a cactus and succulent blend. Add sand or perlite to improve drainage further. Repot every 2–3 years to refresh the soil and provide room for growth.
Food
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted cactus and succulent fertiliser. No feeding is needed during the dormant winter months.
Temperature
Ideal temperatures are between 18–26°C. Protect from frost and temperatures below 5°C.
Pet-safe
Non-toxic to pets and humans, making it a safe option for households with animals.
Sprouts Top Tips
To maintain its compact, symmetrical rosette, rotate the plant occasionally to ensure even light exposure. If the leaves become stretched or pale, move the plant to a sunnier location.
Extras
This plant can develop offsets or “pups” at its base, which can be left for a fuller look or removed for propagation.
